Update: The test came out "negative-dilute." Employer asked me to retake the test, which I did the same day I was notified. New test results show negative (no dilute this time as I made sure to cut down on water intake and eat big meals). Urine was much more yellow than my normal color, but I suppose it's better being unhealthy and dehydrated temporarily than to get mistaken for an addict trying to mask drug use... Lesson here is to not drink more than two or three 8 oz cups of water the day of the test and make sure to not skip meals to avoid accidental urine dilution. This is for an mid-level white collar job at a major global company ( Fortune 100) (Non-dot). There was no policy given regarding how test results are handled nor instructions given before the drug test. (No mention of how much/little to drink, eat, etc.) I went to a Labcorp to get the testing done. The lab tech mentioned that it will go to their lab out of state to get tested, so I don't think it's as simple as a "dip test." I feel stupid since I'm not a drug user and have never even seen drugs (other than on TV!). I drink a lot of water since I go on morning runs. I also drank extra to make sure I could actually produce urine for the test and not be "pee-shy." I actually made myself skip breakfast because I thought I was supposed to fast, since all of my health screenings required fasting - I thought it must be similar for drug testing! In retrospect that is probably the dumbest thing I've ever done. Anyway, before the lab tech noted that my urine was "very clear", I wasn't aware that drinking water would possibly lead to the confusion that I might be a drug user trying to hide traces of drugs by "flushing them out." It simply did not cross my mind at all. My employment and educational background check have all cleared already. Just waiting on the results of the drug test now. I know it won't be "positive" because I don't use drugs, but I just don't want a "negative-dilute" to be misconstrued into "intentionally diluting urine to hide drugs."
